I believe when people adopt a hatha yoga practice, they give themselves an immeasurable gift: a gift of greater health, an enhanced depth of life experience and an increased capacity to ride life's ups and downs. I consider it a great privilege to teach yoga.
My journey with hatha yoga began 33 years ago. I learned meditation (TM & advanced TM) soon after and continue a daily yoga and meditation practice. In 1980 I had the amazing opportunity of spending a month in India where I was introduced to the seeds of Ayurveda; it has been fun to learn more about this useful body of knowledge and to watch these seeds flower in our culture.
Yoga and meditation are so woven into my life that I cannot reflect on it without passing thoughts through
the lenses they created.
In 2003 I took teacher training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in MA. I have been teaching since then.
In the seven years before becoming a yoga teacher, I lived in a spiritual community in the mid-west where between 500 - 1000 of us meditated together twice daily. It deepened my appreciation for the silent underpinnings of life and leaves a deep mark on my appreciation of everything, especially the value of disciplines that give us a break from the mundane. I left the nurturing environment of the meditation group to care for my mother and her husband (who died during the first year).
I have three grown children and two have developed into avid yogis. Five and a half months ago I became the lucky grandmother of twin boys. I have a degree in psychology. Recreationally, I dabble in art and craft activities.
For the majority of my adult life (35 years) I was an at-home mom living in a happy marriage. This part of my life dissolved amicably 8 years ago. Leaving that relationship was and sometimes still is a challenging process but hind-sight shows me that doing so was a natural artifact of continuing to grow.
My childhood was spent in Connecticut but during most of my adult life Ontario, Canada was my home. For two of those years I lived in England. This occurrence gave variety, excitement and a lot of interesting experiences to my time of living outside the US. I've been back in America for 10 years and in Seattle just over a year. I love living in the Pacific NW and intend to make it my permanent home
