Nicole Laurent
Clinical Psychotherapist

Nicole Laurent, M.A., R.C. has been assisting individuals and families since 2003, with the goal of improving the quality of life for all involved. She specializes in cognitive, behavioral, and dialectical methods that are time-limited, respectful and solution-focused. Problems addressed with such approaches may include a variety of difficulties, including anxiety disorders, depression or relative sadness, anger, difficulties in getting along with others, chronic emotional dysregulation, chronic physical or emotional pain, and finding healing after trauma. She is most known within the Seattle area for providing evidence-based treatments for parents, children and teens struggling with clinical levels of opposition, noncompliance, inattention and impulsivity, allowing a successful resolution within both the family system and school or homeschooling environment.

Nicole works with adults, children, and adolescents, as well as couples and families. After a thorough assessment is done to determine presenting problems and environmental influences, a combination of effective protocols may be chosen to meet the goals laid out by the client or presenting family or couple. This is important so that if treatment does not appear to be working within the expected amount of time, appropriate modifications can be made to make the most efficient use of client resources. Collaborative assignments will be used to practice what has been learned in sessions in order to ensure clients experience improvements that generalize to all aspects of their life, and not just inside the therapy office.

She completed her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology and her Master of Arts (M.A.) in Clinical Psychology from Washington School of Professional Psychology in Seattle, Washington. Graduating in 2007, she completed a significant number of additional credits above and beyond what was required for the degree, resulting in a highly trained Master’s level clinician with an uncommon grasp of the scientific principles underlying the practice of professional psychology. Having achieved additional education in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, she is an educated consumer of the scientific literature as it applies to newly founded therapies for various clinical presentations. Her advanced training has led her to understand how various levels of diversity (e.g., race, ethnicity, indigenous heritage, gender, income, sexual orientation, and heath related issues) affect clinical assessment and informs competent practice. It is this integration of both professionalism and clinical knowledge along with seamless integration of both Western and Eastern resources for well-being, that make Nicole Laurent, courtesy of Eastside Family Renewal Service, such a valuable staff member of Fern Life Center.

She trained over a year with doctoral level clinicians, both within the Central Kitsap School District and while at Monroe Correctional Facility’s Special Offender Unit. Throughout her training she continued to work with a diverse range of clients within her community and provided regular seminars on a range of issues important to families and relationships. Her volunteer activities include work for The Ophelia Project and the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI). She is a Registered Counselor with Washington State (#RC00054640) and active member of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Counseling Association (ACA), International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy (IACP) and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy (ABCT).
