At Fern Life Center, we offer classes for every “BODY”. We make it easy to maintain your yoga practice by keeping our system simple. Yoga at Fern Life Center is taught within an Ayurvedic framework, in other words you are taught to know your own individual body’s needs on a DAILY basis so you can better choose the practice inside of your class that will balance you in the moment.
The direction our bodies take changes every minute, every hour, every day, every season, and through every decade of our lives. Whether or not we are balanced or imbalanced has everything to do with the food we eat each and every time we eat, how much and what quality of sleep we get, what kind of exercise we do and at what time and at what intensity, how we think about the events that arise in our daily lives, what time of year it is, and so on…Our clinicians, therapists and instructors are here to empower you to balance yourself through the choices you make every day.
We get all kinds of questions:
Q.: “What should I do to calm down if I get really mad at my boss?”
A.: Being angry is a normal reaction to a given situation, especially if you are a fiery person (pitta). However, staying angry doesn’t harm anyone else but you. Anger stored in your body will become toxic and have detrimental effects on your health. You can be the healthiest eater, work out every day, and get 8 hours of sleep a night but take years off of your life with stored or suppressed anger. Mark Twain said it best: Resentment is like taking poison and hoping the other person dies.
Yoga postures that decrease excess fire, meditation, and cooling foods (like mint, aloe and cilantro) can mean the difference between an ulcer and a balanced life.
Yoga, breathing practices (called pranayama), meditation, and correct food choices will help to alleviate most cases of depression, anxiety, stress eating that leads to obesity, health issues associated with worrying too much, and many illnesses such as arthritis, hypothyroidism, heart disease, high blood pressure, migraine headaches, premenstrual syndrome, gastric disorders, musculoskeletal pain and disorders, autoimmune diseases such as chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, and much more. Done regularly you will notice a slowing in the aging process, a lightness in your being, a heightened sense of joy, strengthening of your body, increased flexibility, improved memory, and better focus mentally.
